Nevertheless, A Portrait Of Powerlessness In The Face Of Nature

We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Quinn Graham personally lately and, on top of being an absolutely, beyond-talented filmmaker and storyteller, we can confirm he’s just one of the nicest, curious, more introspective people out there.

In short, he’s just an overall fantastic human. And, he recently put together a short featuring all-star Los Angeles surfer and close friend Taro Watanabe. There’s travel to faraway places, surprise reports, struggles with loss due to the devastating wildfires that affected LA earlier this year, personal reflection, and everything in between.

Enjoy the beauty of it all above, but read what Quinn has to say about it all before below first.

“What made the film what it was,” Quinn tells us. “Was the conversations with Taro leading up to the trip. We really wanted to capture life outside of the water, but knew we wouldn’t be able to tell a story that we didn’t know yet. We kept reassuring each other that whatever the film was would unfold as we went and lived and listened to life. Unfortunately, what unfolded resulted in great loss. But if we clung to a preconceived idea about what the story was about, I think I wouldn’t have been as open to capturing all the life and events that came to us.

“It’s been a while since this trip, but I think it’s the perfect time to put it out. This year for the both of us has been filled with many different losses, but losses nevertheless. For me, working on this clip has been kind of a way for me to carry myself through it all, and I hope it translates that surfing has been a way for Taro to carry on through his loss. So, I’d encourage the practice of hobbies! They become companions and compasses when life changes fast.”
