Listen: What Pat Franklin Listens To
We ask people to make us playlists not because we have a vacancy for music, but because they inspire us in other ways.
In the same way that if I read a good book, I wonder what the author listens to and what albums influence the chapters I love, if I see a kickflip that is stylish or a garment designed well, I want to know about the creative tendencies of its creator. I was always told growing up that it’s better to be the behind the curtain than on the stage, and so I’ve always been fascinated with the happenings behind the scenes. Patrick Franklin - often referred to at blue and Tompkins as Pea-Franks - is a multi hyphenate skater, designer, artist, etc etc etc - one of those guys prevalent and prolific enough to be ever present but impossible to define, so we asked him to do it for us, and this is what he had to say.
As per describing what I do; I guess you could call me a visual artist, I skate sometimes, I'm a member of the Rassvet design/art department, I've been assisting Kevin and the team with creative contributions at Emerica, literary visitor when people need words for things - I'm whatever you need me to be. At my core I'm a recovering alcoholic, self hating, Irish Catholic from outside of Chicago just trying to behave - trying to be a good person.
The music that he has selected reveals two things about him. One, his taste in music is good and lives mostly in the 1970s. Second, as does his taste in film. Two for one. That’s a good deal.
