Listen Now: The Avalanches’ New Album, ‘No Bad Memories’
The Avalanches much anticipated new album, No Bad Memories, is here, and it is delectable. You should listen to it now, urgently.
I first heard The Avalanches - Since I Left You album on a drive from Vancouver to Whistler in the year 2000.
I was on a bus sitting next to an Australian guy who lent me his CD. I put it in my Sony Discman and was blown away by the originality of the music. The sampling was like nothing I'd ever heard before. It felt genreless and I was an instant fan. Whenever I listen to that album now, I feel nostalgic for that moment and time in my life and remember everything about that era with a great fondness.
The Avalanches' new album No Bad Memoriesexplores themes of nostalgia. It explores an era when music was enjoyed during the transition from physical copies to the dawn of the digital era. Pre-streaming platforms. The iPod era, that sweet spot in between. Arriving October 16th, The Avalanches’ No Bad Memories explores the overlooked sounds and everyday fragments that shape our memories and, in turn, our perspective on nostalgia. Drawing on the curious intersection of advertising, technology and nostalgia, the album reimagines forgotten jingles, start-up tones, obsolete hardware and audio logos as the building blocks of an entirely new Avalanches universe. Give it a whirl.
