Fuck ICE

Last night, someone that I respect sent me a message asking very sternly and earnestly why I or Monster Children haven’t made any public statements about or taken any position on ICE and Border Patrol’s hideous violence. A fair question given the circumstances. As for myself, I don’t think that anyone is coming to me for guidance or perspective on this, nor should they. I’m not the center of this, and I believe that our community is better off sharing information than personal takes. However, I do recognize that Monster Children is a media outlet with a deep commitment to its audience and its communities - a quality which drew me to the publication in the first place - and so her question is valid.

On MC’s behalf, I feel that I must point out, perhaps selfishly, that we have held a strong position from the outset. I, our staff, and our contributors have protested, picketed, chanted, coordinated, and marched against ICE in four cities since last April, and will surely do more. This shouldn’t need to be said, and I am sorry that it does: the needless, senseless, vicious and ongoing state-sanctioned violence by the administration and its agencies, particularly as it has been demonstrated by murders committed by ICE and Border Patrol in Minneapolis in the last two weeks, is unconscionable. Again, this shouldn’t need to be said, but I will say that I and MC are categorically and vehemently anti-ICE, anti-violence, anti-family separation, anti-fascism, anti-abuse, anti-murder. It is fucked, don’t accept it. We are all we’ve got. Be well, look out for each other, stay safe.
