Your Chance To Win $10K And A Sony Cinema Line FX6.

As you’ve probably noticed from our increasingly erratic public displays of excitement, it is that special time of year - our favorite time of year - when we get to sit back and watch all of the cool things you fine filmmakers have been creating.

That’s right, us and you are currently resting snugly in the hot grip of the Monster Children Short Film Awards presented by Wānaka

What is the Monster Children Short Film Awards? It is an annual, open-entry short film competition that is dedicated to encouraging and supporting the cinematic and artistic pursuits of rising filmmakers, young and old, known and unknown. What is a world without new and exciting film? We reckon quite a bit worse, hence our eagerness to support a new generation of enthusiastic and talented filmmakers through glory, acclaim, laurels, product, travel, and cold hard cash.

The winner of this year’s short film awards - the theme of which is, ‘Regeneration’, and which is being judged by the very esteemed, Malia James, Clare Plueckhahn, and Peter Meteherangi Tikao Burger - will receive $10k cash, a Sony Cinema Line FX6 full-frame professional camera, and an all-expenses-paid trip plus production budget to shoot a short film in beautiful Wānaka, New Zealand. Because we are indecisive and all of the entries have been more than worthy of award, the four runners up get $1000 and a $500 Sony voucher, each. Hell of a thing.

As this is the final week of entries (the closing of the entry portal will take place on May 14th), we thought it might be worth taking a moment to show off a bit of what’s up for grabs this year, especially from our friend and partner, Sony.

What can you do with $10K in ice cold, rock hard cash? Seeing as how you’re a filmmaker, you could probably pay off the debt you’ve accrued from making films. Or you could pay your rent, buy a new camera, buy all of the front row seats to your favorite bands next show just to throw them off, or, after you’ve cashed in that all expense trip to Wānaka to shoot your short, fly back again just to hang because it’s gorgeous.

What is perhaps most exciting to us is that Sony is offering one of their Cinema Line FX6 professional full-frame cameras for you to win. The Cinema Line FX6 is a marvel of cinematic engineering and you’d be a moron not to drool over it. This camera has a 4K 10.2 megapixel full-frame back-illuminated CMOS Exmor R™ sensor, an ultra-high sensitivity with ISO expandable to 409,600 for extreme low-light environments and is capable of recording up to 4K 120p / HD 240p with 10 bit 4:2:2 colour depth. The FX6 is a god of a cinema camera.

Do you know what you can do with this thing? With its compact and lightweight body design, the FX6 can be taken anywhere, meaning there are no limits. With its fast and responsive autofocus capability, you could go to Alaska and nail shots of whales breaching. Compatible with over 70 Sony E-mount lenses, you could stand on the Aussie shore with the FX6 and capture the dumb look on your friends’ faces as they rip waves in Indonesia. The Cinema Line FX6 (Valued at SRP $9,999 AUD or $11,199 NZD), is an extremely sought-after camera and is a prize that we, in partnership with Sony, are very proud to offer. Entries close on Sunday. You’d better get to it.

This year’s winner will receive $10K cash, $10K worth of Sony hardware, and an all-expenses-paid trip and production budget to shoot a short film in beautiful Wānaka, New Zealand. Call for submissions is open now. It closes on May 14th, 2023. ENTER NOW !
