Vans Kicks Off LA Art Week With Massive Installation/Skate/Party In Collaboration With Sterling Ruby’s S.R. Studio

Skateboarding colliding with fashion colliding with music colliding with margaritas colliding with each other makes for a good Tuesday night in LA.

The vert absolutely massive vert wall, designed by Playlab, Inc. in collaboration with Sterling Ruby, was slick and primed and didn’t stand much of a chance against Curren and Hosoi, a doubling rarely seen but always appreciated. Efron Danzig, Elijah Berle, Nick Michel, Roman Pabich, Rowan Zorilla, and Zion Wright were also there carving their names into the highest points possible - higher than you’d expect (see Curren photo below) - all while basking in the sweet and sensuous glow of a fashion crowd completely unprepared for and unexperienced in people with bloody elbows sweating on them.

Yes, it was an excellent night. It would have been more excellent if one of our writers hadn’t gotten lost on the way there, stopped for tacos and found herself at a rave (this story pending publishing) and our other guy hadn’t been so swept up by the glory of it all that he couldn’t bear to take photos, but such is life, and their mild incompetence really spells out to us that we’ve in fact hired the right people, because if nothing else, they make lemons into lemonade, and know a good experience when they see one. Thanks for the good experience, Vans x Sterling Ruby x Curren x Zion x Hosoi x Vans OTW x Vans Skate x SALEM, Paris Texas, and Ty who all gave musical performances within the ramp itself. You have set the bar for Tuesday nights for every week to come.

OTW by Vans x S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. will be available in limited quantities through a curated selection of global wholesale partners and at otw.vans.com, beginning Thursday, February 29, at 9am PST/12pm EST.  Additional releases across footwear and apparel will follow in the coming seasons, with a second drop arriving before the end of 2024.
