A Simple Guide to Entering Our Short Film Awards

Presented by Wānaka.

You don’t have to be a hotshot Hollywood director to enter and win the Monster Children Short Film Awards.

You can shoot it on your iPhone, a RED, or a cut from existing footage you already have. What’s important is that your film is between 30 seconds and 10 minutes to be eligible for judging. It’s really easy, and you might just win a huge amount of cash, prizes, and the chance to shoot your own film in Wānaka, NZ, if you can follow the steps below.

Another important thing to consider: answering the brief. We’re looking for short films that best portray what ‘Regeneration’ means to you, and your interpretation of this theme will be taken into account by our talented lineup of judges.

The first thing that comes to mind with this theme might be something related to the environment but as our current entries are proving, there are so many other unique ways to interpret ‘Regeneration.’ It could be the regeneration of culture, a new outlook on life, or a story of resilience. It could be a documentary, an interview, or something entirely abstract. If you’re a filmer currently sitting on footage, don’t be shy to enter it if you can swindle an interpretation of the theme that might not be so obvious in the first take. With only ten days left to enter, here’s a step by step hold-your-hand guide to getting your film in the race to win.

How to enter.

1. Upload your film to Vimeo or YouTube. Can’t tell you how many drobox or WeTransfer links we’ve had. VIMEO or YOUTUBE, people! You can get a free account with either, and it should only take about 30 seconds for people who know how to navigate a computer.

2. Submit your entry here. https://www.monsterchildren.com/mcsfa  making sure to fill in all the required fields such as the credits and where you’re from. We’ll take it from there. Your video settings must be set to public, please do not send us a private link with a password!

3. Sit back and wait. We’ll approve your video as soon as we’ve had a quick look to make sure it’s not something totally inappropriate, like a five-minute YouTube video of squeezing pimples. What’s wrong with you?

This year’s winner will receive $10K cash, $10K worth of Sony hardware, and an all-expenses-paid trip and production budget to shoot a short film in beautiful Wānaka, New Zealand. Call for submissions is open now. It closes on May 14th, 2023. ENTER NOW !
