One of Australia’s favourite festivals has announced an awesome line-up for 2021.
WOMADealide, the iconic annual four-day Music, Arts and Dance festival is putting on a series of sunset concerts headlined by legends Midnight Oil. With Covid ruling out any international acts, the organisers of WOMAD have had to adapt, putting together a bloody impressive line-up of Aussie acts sure to please music lovers of all ages.
Singer Sarah Blasko, indigenous icon Archie Roach (performing tracks from album The Songs Of Charcoal Lane) and Lior, accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, kick things off on Friday night. Saturday is for the oldies, with the Oils supported by veteran songstresses Vika & Linda. Sunday targets a younger audience, with singer-songwriter Tash Sultana and recent three-time ARIA award-winning Sampa The Great.
Monday sees The Teskey Brothers opening for the retuning Oils, who’ll be playing songs from their mini-album The Makarrata Project. Expect some surprise guests during this performance. To accommodate recent changes due to the pandemic, the festival is moving from its usual home at Botanic Gardens to Ityamai-Itpina/King Rodney Park in central Adelaide. Director Ian Scobie has been in constant contact with SA Health to make sure the festival follows all guidelines and is safe for all patrons.
‘While the sunset concerts will be a departure from the format that our audiences have come to know and love, we are working hard towards creating a joyful celebration of WOMADelaiade’s 29-year history and place in Adelaide’s renowned summer festival season,’ Scobie said in a statement.
WOMADelaide takes place Friday, March 5 – Monday, March 8 2001. Pre-sale tickets are available now, with general tickets going on sale 9 am this Friday, December 11. For more information visit womadelaide.com.au.
