This is a partnership we fully support.
Vans has just announced Anderson .Paak as the brand’s first global music ambassador, which is good news for them but great news for us as it means we’ll be getting AP-inspired apparel from here on out. Yes, Lawd!
Given AP’s history with the brand (and the fact he’s more often than not seen stepping out in Vans), the partnership seems like a no brainer. Before he was the global superstar we know today, he worked at a Vans retail store in Topanga Canyon, and has since gone on to perform at House of Vans, is featured in their Sidestripe Sessions and to top it off, will be on the panel of judges for Vans Musicians Wanted competition later this year, which aims to provide a platform for emerging artists around the globe.
Anderson .Paak’s style exists in a weird and wonderful world that’s completely oblivious to trends, and that’s exactly why we like him (highly recommend watching Quibi’s Anderson .Paak episode in their &Music series, which goes deeper on his distinct wardrobe). It’s cool to see him bring his print-heavy, colourful style to life in his first-ever range with Vans, inspired by AP’s Southern California roots and his albums Venice and Malibu. The range features wavy, psychedelic prints splashed across two pairs of footwear (the Old Skool DX and the Sid DX) and two matching bucket hats.
The Old Skool DX silhouette is inspired by AP’s debut album Venice, which features a wavy, psychedelic upper that mixes digital print and 3D printing and is finished with bold yellow eyelets and a translucent blue vinyl Sidestripe.
The Sid DX pays homage to his 2016 album, Malibu, and features embroidered chenille pattern uppers, black laces and stitching, and a Flying-V logo embroidered at each side. Each footwear model is finished with a custom tongue label message from AP, along with translucent green waffle soles, custom packaging and dust bag matching back to the collection. The Vans x Anderson .Paak collection includes a matching AP Bucket Hat that showcases each of the custom prints, silicon patches and signature quotes affixed to the brim of each hat.
If you’ve ever been to an Anderson .Paak gig or festival appearance, you’ll know that the love for this guy is palpable, and with that kind of dedicated fanbase, we’d suggest marking November 13 in your calendar because this range will be moving fast.
The Vans x Anderson .Paak collection will be available worldwide on November 13 and will retail for $40 – $110 USD.
