Haven’t heard of Sydney band Rosa Maria yet?
Well, today’s your lucky day. Like all good cocktails, Rosa Maria are shaken with only the finest elements; surf, garage and blues, and psych, and lightly garnished with a just a touch of 60s influence. It’s possible to detect just a hint of The Growlers and Allah-Las influence within their sound, but they still manage to retain a style that’s uniquely their own. The five-piece band are no strangers to putting on one hell of a live show too, which has lead them to sharing the stage with the likes of The Murlocs, The Pinheads & The Delta Riggs.
Their latest single, ‘Girl in 507’ is loosely based on J.D Salinger’s short story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, which follows a young couple beset by tragedy. The track oozes the reverbed vibes of 60’s psych, which is complimented by their freshly dropped video (above). The clip, directed by Tom Atkins and Josh Martin, is an ode to American TV variety shows of the 50’s and 60’s, with a modern twist. You can catch Rosa Maria at their single launch at Leadbelly in Newtown (Sydney) this Friday, 6th of October, or at the following venues below:
Saturday 14th October – The Captain Cook Hotel
Sunday 15th October – North Wollongong Hotel
Friday 10th November – Oxford Art Factory
