At 9 AM PST on Tuesday, May 26th, Austyn Gillette will ride his skateboard from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica State Beach in honor of his friend, Dylan Rieder.
Dylan was born on May 26, 1988, and passed away on October 12, 2016 due to leukemia-related complications. During his time with us, he undeniably changed the face of skateboarding, influencing the culture and beyond like no other skateboarder ever has.
With his marathon skate, Austyn aims to inspire and educate skaters and the broader audience about the Dylan Rieder Foundation, and also celebrate Dylan’s birthday, life and legacy. Austyn’s hope is that skaters around the world will (safely) skate for Dylan in their own cities as well.
A limited-edition, commemorative tee-shirt, shot by Dylan’s friend Ryan Allan, has been produced to coincide with the event and will be available for purchase at former.com on the 26th. 100% of profits go directly to the City of Hope Hospital. Donations can also be made directly to the foundation without a tee purchase.
Also worth mentioning, Austyn’s pilgrimage will be live-streamed on Former’s Instagram page, beginning at 9 AM Pacific Standard Time on Tuesday, May 26th (noon on the east coast and 2 AM the next day Aus time; set your alarm).
