John Safran Flares in King Gizz’s ‘Hot Black Soup’

King Gizz has released a new taste of their album Butterfly 3001, featuring DJ Shadow’s remix of their track ‘Hot Black Soup.’

Directed by John Angus Stewart, the new visual captures John Safran in full flare—in a quick but heady four minutes, Safran’s character gurns, gyrates and burns through raves, burn-outs, and car park vomits. “Black Hot Soup (DJ Shadow ‘My Own Reality’ Re-Write)” is the opener from Butterfly 3001, the band’s upcoming album featuring nothing but remixes of last year’s album, Butterfly 3000. Though we’re still waiting on the official release, the tracklist for Butterfly 3001 reveals features from Peaches, Fred P, Deaton Chris Anthony, Flaming Lips, Confidence Man and more.

John Angus Stewart said of the video, ‘As DJ Shadow fully reworked ‘Black Hot Soup’ I cast John Safran to fully re-work the song again within a performance. Calling it a dance is a stretch, I’d call it more of a full-body dry heave.’

What better way to kick off the new year and the new Covid outbreak than with a full-body dry heave? Hit play on the new video above, and keep your eyes peeled for Butterfly 3001 dropping soon.
