Barack Obama Shares 20-Track Playlist

Barack Obama hands down has the best music taste of any President.

And if you doubt that claim, you’ll be pleasantly surprised after giving his latest 20-track playlist a spin. Released in conjunction with his new book, A Promised Land, the Spotify exclusive features a bunch of tunes that played an important role during his two terms in office. ‘Music has always played an important role throughout my life—and that was especially true during my presidency,’ Obama explained on Twitter. ‘In honour of my book hitting shelves tomorrow, I put together this playlist featuring some memorable songs from my administration. Hope you enjoy it.’

It’s quite a diverse selection of artists and songs, including Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rhiannon’, Sade’s ‘Cherish The Day’, and Bruce Springsteen’s ‘The Rising’. Beyonce and Stevie Wonder both feature twice (Bey’s hit ‘Halo’ appearing alongside her cover of the Etta James classic ‘At Last’, the song Obama and his wife danced to at his Inaugural Ball). The only questionable choice is U2’s ‘Beautiful Day’.

In a Facebook post, Obama expanded on his song selections, explained that while reviewing debates notes, he would get down to Jay-Z’s ‘My 1st Song’ or Frank Sinatra’s ‘Lucky Be A Lady’, while also mentioning the special moments he treasured with Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and Gloria Estefan, who all feature on the playlist. Shorter than his recent hip-hop heavy Summer DNC playlist (featuring Megan Thee Stallion’s feisty ‘Savage’ remix), there no doubt this collection of songs has something for everyone and is a reminder of Obama’s awesomeness.
