You Missed It: The Premiere of Brixton’s New ‘50wt’ Video

Oh God, yes, we love a fucking party.

A good fucking party. Not no too-cool-to-dance, everyone-just-wants-to-be-cooler-than-you, no-one-talk-to-me-I’m-trying-to-brood parties - I mean a good fucking party. A party with meaning, a party with purpose, and boy was that a party with a purpose. Purpose and alcohol. And some cigarettes. And motorcycles. And skateboards. And well dressed people. Some burn outs. Some more well dressed people. And dancing, so much dancing. One fight, maybe one and a half. All together, the party that Brixton had for the premiere of their new film by Mark Kirkland, 50wt, was a very good party. So good in fact that people texted me about how good it was as though I wasn’t also there. Duh.

50wt is a new film in a series wherein roadtrips are documented, but not just any roadtrip. A very special kind of road trip. A journey through over a thousand of Monument Valley’s miles were traversed by skaters, surfers, friends and artists, not on horseback or skate deck but on motorcycle and all sorts of antique vehicle. It is a beautiful trek made even more so by the dazzling filmmaking and cinematic approach to a documentary narrative, and a fascinating film made even more so by the personalities of those who made the journey. Among them, Scotty Stopnik, Matty Matheson (love me some alliteration), Ryan Townley, and so many more. The video will release in full in a matter of weeks, but until then, just bask in the reminiscent glory of these images. Find yourself (literally and spiritually) in them, feel the delicious feelings once again, wonder why you did or didn’t do that thing you did or didn’t do, gush over the photo of the special someone whom you were too afraid to speak to (and then reverse search their face to find their social media accounts because the modern age is terrifying), and look to Brixton for the updates to come.
