YOU MISSED IT - OUR SCREENING OF ED O’BRIEN’S NEW FILM, ‘BLUE MORPHO'
Photography by Wade Whittington.
After premiering at SXSW Austin in March, we were lucky to host the intimate Australian Premiere of Ed O’Brien’s short documentary, Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play, at Golden Age Cinema in Surry Hills.
Made to accompany the release of the Radiohead guitarist's second solo album of the same name, the documentary provides the context for the emotional circumstances in which he made the record. In a time of his life, which he admits was one of the most challenging he’s experienced. Struggling with depression, he found himself spending days on end doing nothing but playing guitar.
Eventually, he found himself again, while retreating from the city in the Welsh wilderness, where everything began to piece back together. Shot beautifully on location in Wales, you watch Ed connect with nature in a way that feels healing, a sentiment echoed by one YouTube commenter, who poetically wrote under the film’s trailer, ‘this actually healed me and saved me.’
The film will be released courtesy of Up the Game in association with Transgressive Records at the end of May.
