What’s Good, LA?
Ah, Los Angeles, our bread and butter.
City of Angels on America’s western coast. Hollywood. Yada yada. It’s tough, man, there are literally hundreds of things to do in this city every week, and though we go to a lot of them, it feels like nothing that great. Maybe it’s just because of falling into the same old, seeing the same people, drinking the same free beers in the same galleries - it gets tedious. Here are some things you can do in LA this week to get you perhaps just a little bit off the beaten path.
Boogie Central, Tuesday @ The Short Stop
The Short Stop in Echo Park is Naz’s favorite bar in Los Angeles. Why? Because there is a massive dance floor that fills up every single night of the week with people who are there to actually dance. They’re not all there to dance ironically while taking TikTok videos, nor are men there to hug the wall and prey on innocent girls like buzzards picking over the night’s fallen angels, nor is there a bachelorette party. People are there to move to the music, and with $3 beers, who are you not? It’s the cheapest dance on a Tuesday you can find in the city.
Hollis Howard, Thursday @ Permanent Records Roadhouse
See Bright Young Things alum Hollis Howard play with mer marcum and Farrah Hanna at Permanent Records Roadhouse at an early show. Music at 6:30. Fucking be there, bitch. Buy you a cocktail.
Friko w/ youbet, Friday @ The Lodge Room
Dance like a mother fucker to Friko, a Chicago-based power pop group with special guests youbet. Support local venues, support local music, support local dancing.
Spotlight on Willem Dafoe, Saturday @ Braindead Studios
Who dafuck doesn’t like Willem Dafoe? Throw popcorn at the screen, watch something other than those horrid Marvel movies you inhale, make or take some cinematic friends and find a bit more culture while you’re at it.
Arto Saari’s book signing, Saturday @ Oblivion Los Angeles.
I mean, what more do I have to say? Two of our friends - Arto Saari and Oblivion LA - bonding and converging over our shared love of photography, print, and resellable autographs? Get there or you’re blowing it.
