Watch: Oblivion Los Angeles’ ‘cutbacks, etc’
Oblivion - located in beautiful Highland Park and helmed by our friend and colleague Grady Strange - has quickly become something of an east Los Angeles staple.
The multifaceted vintage shop/private label/event space/filming location/music venue has just the right melding of curated shopping and galavanting options, and always with a particular flavor of surf nostalgia; a reckoning of a previous era of surfing that was simultaneously more innocent and more fucking gnarly than today. It is the sort of aesthetic likening that recalls Kelly Slater’s hair, Big Wednesday quotes, and a uniquely California-commuter surfing lifestyle.
The new shop video, cutbacks, etc, has blood pumping through the same vein as the shop itself, shot simply and beautifully, featuring acts and motion that challenge the artistic offerings of The Greats - Orson Welles, Casavetes, The Coens, Ron Burgundy - and possess the glory of war, the pain of love, the beauty of civility, and the sultry temptation of chaos, but is mostly Grady doing some cutbacks in California and Oaxaca. Featuring team manager Brian Bartus. Enjoy.
