Watch: Mattson 2 in Cocoa Beach

When Sun Bum calls, it is time to clear the schedule.

They hit Ollie and I up to come out to Cocoa Beach and check out Sonny’s Porch, the original office for the brand and the venue for their series of musical acts where they invite the locals along to witness world class acts in a very intimate environment.

The brief was simple - come and have some fun! We love having fun. They didn’t even particularly care if we walked away with an article or evidence we attended, they just wanted us to have a good time. The schedule came through and it was amazing; Air Boat ride, hold baby alligators, margarita’s on the pier, check the local scenery, watch the dress rehearsal for an air show, get to know the twins and enjoy some amazing music. We had this in the bag.

Somehow Ollie and I didn’t know a thing about the Mattson twins Jared and Jon, at least we didn’t think that we did. Once we plugged in their music to the rental car on the way down to Cocoa Beach we were like, wait what, this song… and that song, they’re all over our personal playlists without us realizing. The album ‘Star Stuff’ with Chaz Bundick (Toro y moi) has been on heavy rotation in the past - and as I write this now.

First stop was the air boats and before we even met, the twins were at the bar ordering margaritas - our kind of guys. We were all equally excited and nervous as our host ran over hundreds of alligators and we perched up a little too close for comfort but the vibes were high. We spent the rest of the day frolicking around beautifully strange Cocoa Beach until it was time to meet up with all the crew, shelter from one hell of a storm and criticize the sushi the town had to offer. Our love for the twins was growing fast as they felt more and more like old friends as we exchanged stories and realized our plethora of mutual buddies.

The next day the stormy weather had passed and it was show time. We were excited to see our new bros entertain the pants off the porch. As the golden hours set in, the Mattson 2 set up

and settled into to a beautiful set that you should definitely chuck on after you finish the rest of my brilliantly entertaining article. I could have listened to these guys jam all night, but I was also looking forward to just hanging with the one of a kind duo. It’s not so often you get to enjoy an amazing performance and then high five and share a drink on the porch. Before the booze had completely drenched us, it was time to find the local jazz bar, let the boys put their tools down and enjoy some local talent. We ended up at Heidi’s Jazz Club & Restaurant where the cast of band members were all 70+. They played with the experience of a 1920’s jazz band but the enthusiasm of a pack of highschool students at the Opera House. Jared and I leant into a couple of martini’s and he started a new food IG blog @royaltyfoodsinc that you need to give a follow - wouldn’t you agree? We blacked out after that, thank god for Sunscreen.
