Arctic Monkeys have released a video for their single, ‘Sculptures Of Anything Goes’, today. It hums. It threatens. It is good.

The band from Sheffield rose to prominence in the early 2000’s as the UK’s more sarcastic, less libertine indie guitar hit makers. Now, they are in their adult phase, leaning even further into a sci-fi lounge aesthetic first established on 2018’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and built out even further on their latest album, The Car.

Really though, it’s a thumping good track and a video that makes me feel very uncool in comparison. The song simmers and boils and simmers again, with gradient and humming anticipation that never quite climaxes, leaving you wanting. The affronting and sometimes threatening lyrics in combination with a lack of chorus or even consistent rhyme scheme makes a listener feel a bit lead on and told off, if not outright shown up, which makes sense considering the fact that the musical group listed among Alex Turner’s greatest inspirations is the Wu-Tang Clan. Light some candles, put on a suit, and listen.
