Otis Carey Teams Up With We Are Feel Good Zinc To Protect Our Sunburnt Country
The famous line from Dorothea Mackellar’s poem ‘I love a sunburnt country’ rings especially true for us when you really think about it.
We are a country who love being outside after all. Sometimes to our own detriment, with approximately two in three Australians diagnosed with some form of skin cancer in our lifetime. That’s a pretty wild statistic, especially considering skin cancer is one of the most preventable big C’s. While the ‘Slip, slop, slap’ campaign has certainly penetrated through the brains of most young Australians (the presence of melanoma in people under the age of 30 years in Australia is the lowest it has been in the past 25 years), adopting sunscreen into an everyday routine isn’t as common as you would think. But that’s where We Are Feel Good Inc and Otis Hope Carey come in.
In support of National Skin Cancer Action Week (NSCAW), our favourite sunscreen brand has teamed up with one of our favourite artists to create the Otis Hope Cary Zinc Stick. It’s a pretty smart collab if you ask us, because if there is anything that is going to make putting on sunscreen (or in this case zinc) feel less like a nagging parent and more like something we actually want to do - it’s well designed packaging. And who better to do that than the man himself Otis Hope Carey.
The story behind Otis’ design for this collaboration is underpinned by the deep cultural and environmental connections Australians share with the ocean, intertwining First Nation art with a clear message to zinc up. To further celebrate the collaboration and spread the message of sun protection, Otis created a large-scale beach artwork ‘‘inviting Australians to tune in, engage, and reflect on how culture, community, and sun safety can come together in Australia.’
On top of the installation, We Are Feel Good Inc will be donating a percentage of every OHC Zinc Stick to Skin Check Champions, a not for profit charity dedicated to the prevention of skin cancer through services brought to high risk communities all around the country. To amplify this impact, We Are Feel Good Inc as guided by Otis, will also donate sunscreen product packs to First Nation communities, coastal crew and hands that need it the most. This really is a collaboration for all Aussies to get behind. Your skin will thank you for it and so will everyone else who it helps along the way.
