MONSTER CHILDREN SHORT FILM AWARDS 2023

Presented by Wānaka.

That’s right, film dorks, the Monster Children Short Film Awards are on again, and this time we’re really bringing the big bucks.

But the prize isn’t just cash. It’s also stuff. Good stuff. Plus, a trip to the Land of the Long White Cloud to make another short film while filling your pockets with Perky Nanas. The Monster Children Short Film Awards is the best short film competition in the world, and if you don’t enter, you’re either a fool or someone who does not make movies. But even then, maybe you should consider making at least one movie and entering the competition for a chance to win gold, glory, the aforementioned Perky Nanas, and a handshake from a genuine New Zealander!

This year’s theme is Regeneration, and we’re asking filmmakers to submit a short film around their interpretation of that word. 'The inaugural 2022 Awards attracted 223 incredible entries,' said a spokesperson for Monster Children, 'and we're looking forward to seeing what this year’s theme will uncover. It could be a documentary, an interview, or something entirely abstract. The most critical thing is that the film interprets the theme of the importance of Regeneration.' Judging your interpretation of the theme will be filmmakers Malia James, Peter Burger and Clare Plueckhahn.

This year’s winner will receive $10K cash, $10K worth of Sony hardware, and an all-expenses-paid trip and production budget to shoot a short film in beautiful Wānaka, New Zealand. Call for submissions is open now. It closes on May 14.
