Monster Children Presents Folio With Ash Holmes

Powered by

Folio - Powered by Squarespace - is a Monster Children series showcasing and celebrating creatives, connectors and entrepreneurs.

In the second instalment, we’d like to introduce Ash Holmes, an artist and gallery co-owner of HAKE House of the Northern Beaches. Ash is a fourth-generation, self-taught artist who primarily uses oil and acrylic on canvas. By building texture through gestural mark makings and harmonious tones to evoke a sense of time and space, it’s no wonder why Ash has been selected for a swarth of prestigious art awards. When she’s not creating, Ash is in the gallery, or outside in nature soaking up inspiration. Given the hands-on nature of her work, Ash relies on Squarespace to do the heavy lifting when it comes to showcasing her art. The Hake House website acts as an intersection of functionality and creativity, housing her work alongside the others represented by the gallery in style while allowing Ash to focus on the doing aspect of her job as both a gallerist and artist.

HAKE House is a creative space housing twenty-two artists, both emerging and established. Founded in 2022 alongside Jake Elliot and Sammy Nugent, HAKE’s interior aesthetics take inspiration from Japan’s artisanal values – making something in small quantities but making it well, and something to cherish for years to come. This approach is reflected across the diverse range of artists on show as well as in Ash’s work. There is also a strong connection to land, felt within the gallery and Ash’s pieces alike, fostered by Ash’s deep appreciation for nature. For Ash to have a space to reflect on her work and values in physical space, it was equally as important to reflect this immersive creative environment online by building a digital presence. A place to evoke the same sense of appreciation for beautiful art whether you are on the Northern Beaches or not, which is certainly seen through the HAKE House website.
