Liv Lovelace On Volcom’s Latest Skate RElease ‘Microwave’

The Volcom team has never been so stacked and this Friday they are about to prove that with a god damn party.

Featuring a slew of bands, a group art show of local talent, Coco Ho's clip and of course, the premiere of Microwave featuring our very own Liv Lovelace. Clear the schedule and get on down to Iron and Resin, we won't tell you twice. But before that read our chat with Liv ahead of the prem so you can get acquainted with what to expect.

Two years on the road to pull Microwave together - how do you feel about it being out in the world?

Honestly, I'm really happy. After being on the road experiencing the energy and how much work everyone put into the project, I’m honestly just hyped. I don’t feel too nervous about the rest of the world seeing it now, I’m just excited. Seeing some of the things that went down and to now have it all come together, filmed and edited by the best in the business - it’s a special moment.

Was there a highlight spot at all over the two years this was filmed?

My highlight was probably when we went to Adelaide. It was a small crew, no team manager, just our filmer and a couple of us who were trusted to go film and be productive. I felt like it was exactly that. Just super fun. Our friend in the video lives down there so we had all the best local knowledge to go anywhere, eat good food, hang out.

How have the other prems gone?

The first one was insane. No one had seen the video yet except the team manager and our filmer. Everyone was a couple beers deep, just screaming, so hyped for each other and how it came out. I don’t know if it was the loudest because of us in the film or if it was also received really well. The prem was insane. I feel like those moments don’t come around very often so I definitely tried to live in it and cherish that feeling.

Love to hear that. The Volcom girl team is so strong now especially with Jaleesa added to the roster. Have you had a chance to overlap with some of the surf crew too?

They came to the Melbourne prem which was super sick. Sometimes we do some campaigns together. It’s nice to have female energy on a trip. I hope there’s more crossovers in the future. They definitely handle the modelling aspect really well so it’s fun on shoots with them.

For sure. You were in the Olympics as well, did that open up any more doors for you?

Maybe not as much as people said that it would. Maybe if you were on the podium or got into the TikTok world but that wasn’t really me. I’ve just tried to use the confidence and the momentum that the Olympics gave me to keep going and being more productive. So yes and no.

Fair enough. And what is the focus of skating for you right now? Are you already on to the next thing or just trying to relish in this part coming out?

Definitely eyes forward already looking for the next thing but also trying to be present and grateful for this release now. But yeah, super hyped on the next project and motivated to keep going. It’s been a lifelong goal to have a full part in a film and achieving that goal only makes me want more.

What can we expect from the Gold Coast premiere on Friday?

High energy, good vibes, lots of beers and lots of screaming.

Join the Volcom team at Iron & Resin, Currumbin this Friday. Beers and screaming predicted and promised x
