Introducing The Monster Children X Vans Collaboration Skate Shoes With Short Film, ‘SOLEMATES’

Monster Children and Vans are excited to introduce a collection of two new collaboration shoes - an Skate Authentic Mid and a Skate Slip On - with the release of ‘SOLEMATES’, a short film created with award winning filmmaker Ben Briand about love and skateboarding featuring the two shoes as well as Vans Australia team members Harry Bryant, Holly Wawn, and Digby Luxton.

‘SOLEMATES’, inspired by Air’s beloved 1998 music video, ‘All I Need’, by Mike Mills, is an earnest documentary exploring the adoring life and clumsy love of Jules and Dylan - an Australian couple in the throes of enamorment felt and explained with the kind of tender shyness and deep vulnerability that only kids in love can provide - as they go about an average day together: skateboarding, surfing, napping, falling, and laughing, carried throughout by their pairs of Vans x Monster Children Skate Authentic Mid’s and Skate Slip Ons.

Both shoes in the collection are adorned with a custom Monster Children print, appearing first in the form of a custom MC checkered pattern - pink/black across the Checkered Skate Slip On and black/off-white on the inner lining and peeking from the top rim of the Skate Authentic Mid - and secondly as a custom Evan Hecox ‘Monster Children’ and ‘Team Average’ handwriting appearing on the inner lateral foxing of either shoe. Additionally, both shoes come with a distressed vintage effect, one of a kind textures, and unique accents to provide the pieces with story and legacy. Because we love our Vans, and we want them to look like it.

From the moment you get them, the Vans x Monster Children Skate Authentic Mid and Skate Slip On are your shoes. These shoes have run from the police and bombed down hills. They’re your dancefloor killers, your beer spill catchers, and your creature comfort. They’re your go-to, your end all, your daily wear, your vessel. They’re your favorite pair of shoes - the ones you’ve slipped on and kicked off a thousand times - straight out of the box.
