Tell us about the boardies - why do we need to buy them?
I pretty much asked for a custom pair of board shorts that I could live my life in and they've pretty much ticked all the boxes. I can surf all day in them, I can cruise around. I can go and get food in them. I can go skating in them. Sleep in them, do whatever. Like absolutely everything in them. And you know, they're comfortable, they're slim line, the cut's great, the length is perfect.
Is it true what they say about red?
(Laughs) Yeah pretty timeless, I reckon. I've been watching a lot of old surf movies in my recovery and red is just a classic you know. It’s always been in style. I also really like matching footage up of surfing in the same pair of boardshorts. It’s a bit of a thing I get addicted too so this one pair has legit gone around the world with me.
How much testing did you do in these things to get them feeling right?
A fair. A fair bit, definitely. We went back and forth with a few materials and things like that. We didn't want to create something that was ultra stretchy because they can start to wrap around your knee and it feels a bit like you’re wearing an elastic band. But then you don’t want to wear something that is cargo short, or is heavy so just finding something smack bang in the middle of that. They’re also pretty good as a walk short and you certainly go to the pub in them without feeling underdressed.
What are you ordering at the pub when you’re wearing these boardies?
A schnitty and a schooner for sure.
What are you putting on your shnitty?
Mushroom sauce.
