We Went To The Converse X Alexis Sablone AS-1 Pro Launch Party At The Guggenheim In NYC

Images Taken, Notes Written, and Drinks Consumed by Tyler Andrew

We don’t recall a lot of Tuesday night, and that’s a sign of a good party.

And it was. Tuesday night was the celebration/screening/launch/party/fingerboarding sesh for the new Cons X Alexis Sablone AS-1 shoe, a piece of luxurious skateboarding technology and style the likes of which have never been witnessed on this dumb beautiful planet. We went, took photos, took notes, ate tacos, and stumbled home. Well, to be more precise, our photographer, Tyler Andrew, wrote the notes and took the photos, much of which was done to some intensely unnecessary detail, and instead of just recapping the night with some photos, we thought we’d take a crack at interpreting his drunken scribbles.

OUR INTERPRETATION:

We can report with some authority that the pink drink was indeed the crowd favorite. It was described as being a bit like hibiscus, and a bit like vodka, but can you take the word of people who were at an open bar party at the Gugg? What we can say definitively is that an open bar is a truly class move. It’s a signal to the world saying, ‘this thing is so sick, we will put our money where our mouth is and buy the whole town a drink (or 6).’ When’s the last time you walked into a bar and bought everyone a drink? Never? Well when’s the last time you put out a sick shoe with Alexis Sablone? Yeah, starting to add up.

THE NOTE:

OPEN BAR -

pink drink ( fire )

yellow drink

beer

pink drink seemed to be the crowd fave

horderves -

tacos

cheese burgers

chicken sandwiches

all fire

THE NOTE:

No skating took place (other than chick who brought her fingerboard)

There was a video directed by this dude who is super into 90s New York City skating

Alexis got to skate around the goog in the video

showed clips of her designing the shoe

OUR INTERPRETATION:

Fingerboarding counts (photographic evidence below). There is indeed a sick video directed by Jeremy Elkin, the visionary behind All the Streets are Silent, that showed the process through which Alexis designed the shoe, the concepts behind it, and even some of the specific design/tech choices behind the model. And yes, Alexis got to skate the Guggenheim, which might be the only recorded instance of a sanctioned session in the Gugg, which is absolutely glorious. A bit of envy there on our end. (Check it out below)

THE NOTE:

first couple floors of the goog were open to explore, wondering if anyone broke anything eventually

OUR INTERPRETATION:

We are also very curious if anyone broke anything considering they gave a bunch of skaters free drinks and let them wander the halls. If you can confirm something was broken, please let us know which piece, who broke it, how, and send the clip.

THE NOTE:

felt like the met gala of skateboarding

secret room - you need a dot to enter

hummus ?

OUR INTERPRETATION:

We got many reports of a dot allowing for access into secret spaces. Not Eyes Wide Shut secret, but like, free hummus and very possibly a VIP room. Getting a comparison to the Met Gala is high praise, but when you tack on ‘of skateboarding’ at the end, it becomes somehow a bit cooler. We reckon it was a more valid event than people with too much money in absurd outfits they’ll only wear once. This was an event with Met Gala class, but Blue Park style.

The Converse AS-1 Pro is the debut performance signature shoe for skateboarder, Olympian, MIT-trained architect and multi-talented creative, Alexis Sablone. Get yourself some more info ahead of the May 2nd global launch, here.
