Art School Rock This Saturday at Marrickville Bowlo

This Saturday, May 14th, get to Marrickville Bowling Club to catch some of Sydney’s most exciting emerging bands.

Headliners Gyrate will be in full flight, having released their excellent debut EP Den of Vice last year. While the EP is predominantly comprised of fast-paced punk burners, the band has also been leaning into moody, textural songwriting reminiscent of bands like Portishead.

The night will also see Sydney bands Fairweather and Dionysus play. Fairweather plays folk-rock that sounds like the bastard child of Nick Cave and Julia Jacklin, while Dionysus (which also features members of Gyrate and Concrete Lawn) play synth-driven post-punk.

The intermingling of members is one key feature of the night: nearly all of the bands performing have inbred lineups, having met and formed at gigs in Sydney, or at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, where many of the musicians study or have graduated from. This gig will also be the debut performance of two such groups: Carnations and Daycare. The five bands’ sonic territories relate to and complement each other, but are each distinctly their own. Do not miss this gig!

Doors open at 7 pm, grab your tickets ahead of Saturday right here.
