Art, Live Music and Cinema You Can Enjoy from the Couch

Art, music, cinema.

We can’t deny they’re all better in person. It seems cruel that the areas in which we go to enjoy these fine things in life are the places where Covid likes to go (but not football stadiums, because Covid has taste). But if one thing can redefine and carry on, it’s art, and here’s the ways it’s doing just that, which you can enjoy right now from home.

Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings

Hilma af Klint left instructions that her work should be kept secret for at least 20 years following her death in 1944 because she knew the world just wasn’t ready for her creations. In 2013, the first of her work was displayed in Stockholm and it made its way to our shores for an exhibition at the Gallery of NSW in June for just shy of a month before having to become a secret behind closed doors again. The friendly folk at the gallery don’t think it should be kept a secret though, with a video walkthrough of the beautiful exhibition now available. Marvel at the first Western abstract works known to the current art world, for free!

The Ritz is screening movies from $3

Go buy a packet of ice cream cones (of which you will only eat one because by tomorrow they will be all be soggy), fill it up with ice cream and dip it in some melted chocolate. It won’t be like the real deal choc top from the cinemas in any regard, but the disappointment will be smoothed over by the fact you can stream a section of classics from the Randwick Ritz from just $3. These guys have been running on-demand films for a while, but given the recent lockdowns, they’re running this hot special for some blockbusters to pull us through. There’s Tenet, Joker, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and heaps more.
