Premiere: Vans’ ‘Pentacoastal’

Pentacoastal is supposedly a ‘recollection of Australasian exploration following a quasi recursive map,’ but I have absolutely no idea what this means because I left my brain at the premiere last night after the Black Lips tore the house down.

There’s a lot of surf language I haven’t learnt, but I do know that these salty dogs got fucking ‘gnarly’ for this one. The waves were terrifying, even just watching them roll over us on the big screen. The film was directed by Wade Goodall and Shane Fletcher and features Harry Bryant, Dane Reynolds, Nathan Fletcher, Pat Gudauskas, Tanner Gudauskas, Dylan Graves, and Kyuss King, but the show is truly stolen by Wade Goodall, who goes absolutely ape-shit. The after-black session by Wade was apparently solo, and he was charging through the craziest waves of the movie. Hats off to that motherfucker. I can only imagine this movie will further concrete Wade as one of the best surfers of his generation. The film will be premiering worldwide through February, and officially released in March. If you get a chance to attend one of these viewings, I recommend you do, ’cause three months seems like a long wait for this classic.

Without spoiling the movie with too many photos of the screen, or pointing my camera at reluctant, drunken surfers, I turned my lens to the ever-entertaining Black Lips, so you’ll have to just enjoy these live music photos instead of surfing.
