John Waters is coming to Australia again!
The ‘pope of trash’ is returning to the Sydney Opera House to perform his acclaimed one-man show, Make Trouble, on October 15, and whether you’re a Waters fan or not, you should try to go because he’s a legend and when he dies you’ll be able to say, ‘John Waters? Oh yeah, I saw him once.’
If you’re unfamiliar with Waters, he’s the cult filmmaker responsible for Pink Flamingos (1972), Hairspray (1988), Cry-Baby (1990), Serial Mom (1994), and a bunch of other really peculiar, unforgettable, disturbing, delightful, revolting, hilarious, poignant, genre-defining movies. My favorite is Pink Flamingos, which is really just the worst/most brilliant movie ever and comes with the tagline ‘an exercise in bad taste,’ which it is. It’s gross. If the Marquis De Sade and Andy Warhol made a movie, this is what it would look like. In the final scene, the protagonist, Divine, eats dog shit in a bid to remain the ‘filthiest person alive.’ She literally, actually eats dog shit. It’s disgusting and YOU can watch that scene HERE if you WANT. My second favorite John Waters film is Pecker (trailer above). Anyway, dude is a genius, and you’d be crazy to miss him.
