‘Queen & Slim’ is a Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde

The second trailer has arrived for Lena Waithe’s Queen & Slim and… whoa.

The film stars Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Black Mirror) and Jodie Turner-Smith (in her first feature film role), a black couple on a first date in Ohio who are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, and after a deadly scuffle, Slim shoots the police officer in self-defense. Fearing for their lives, the pair go on the run, but video footage of the incident is released, resulting in a national manhunt and the couple becoming a symbol of trauma, terror, grief, and pain for people across the country. The film doesn’t just lightly touch on systemic racism—it runs at it full-force, and with Lena Waithe’s masterful writing and director Melina Matsoukas’ evocative imagery, this one’s sure to spark some fiery debate.
