Welcome to episode three of A Local’s Perspective, a new series where we team up with environmentally-conscious Australians and put our precious coastline under the microscope, brought to you by Corona Extra.
For this installment, we head south to Bells Beach and hang out with surfer, shaper and artist Shyama Buttonshaw. Having grown up in the area, Shyama is a fixture in the local surf scene, as well as being widely known for his progressive shapes that draw inspiration from classic surfboard design and values. But years of getting to know his local breaks intimately has also brought him into close contact with the damaging effects that plastic is having on the Aussie coastline. Shyama is a huge advocate for sustainability, both in his own life and his local community, making him the perfect choice to help us dig deeper into the threat that idyllic coastal towns such as Bells Beach face.
Hit play on our third episode of A Local’s Perspective above, then get involved at the Corona x Parley cleanup on Monday 22nd of April at the Torquay Hotel. It kicks off at 2 pm and will be followed by ice-cold Coronas and food back at the Torquay Hotel as a reward for all your hard work. Spots are limited, so first in best dressed.
