Studio Visit: Jahmal Williams

Video by Waylon Bone

“Skate art” can be total shit. Fortunately, pro skater Jahmal Williams makes art that’s actually good.

Jahmal Williams ages like a fine wine. The OG East Coaster has been putting out quality video parts since his classic section in Eastern Exposure 3: Underachievers (1996). In 2007 he co-founded HOPPS Skateboards, which just celebrated a limited edition capsule collection with CONS this month. And judging by his recent footage in the Josh Stewart-directed short film that launched alongside that very same capsule, Jahmal’s skating is only getting more and more refined—see for yourself at the bottom of this post.

But it’s not just his skating that has been on point all these years. Jahmal’s blossomed into quite the fine artist. We stopped by his studio (ahem, apartment) to catch up.
