Derek Henderson is arguably New Zealand’s most prolific photographic export. Now based in Sydney after numerous years living in London and traveling across the globe on assignments, his work varies from images of high fashion to the average person on the street in suburbia. This issue he gives us his best shot of Kiwi supermodel Penny Pickard.
Says Derek – “I think it’s one of my favourite images because it’s Penny. We did this image for iD magazine in about 2003, at Braxmere Lodge, near Lake Taupo in New Zealand. You could rent the house that came with the hot pool that Penny is in. The whole thing is in a garden full of different kinds of Japanese maple trees. It is no longer there, which is another reason why it is one of my favourite images. It’s also analogue and I only have the one print as I’ve lost the negative.”
