Xavier Davies’ Psychedelic Pskulls

Nope, that’s not a typo. Xavier Davies purposely spelt it like that.

And let’s be honest, most people have a weird fascination with skulls. Our editor in chief, Mr. Jason Crombie, once considered purchasing a human skull so he could walk around our office, reciting Hamlet: “Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him well.” He’d say to the random dead guy’s noodle, whose name was probably Randall. He never actually purchased the head, though; he bought a guitar instead.

T-Town local and all round nice guy, Xavier Davies has a huge fascination with skulls. Xavier’s new solo exhibition of paintings, titled ‘Psychedelic Pskulls’ is very much an evolution of the artist’s lifelong love affair with the human head and other iconic imagery and symbols.

The striking and energetic psychedelic works bring together XD’s wide influences from music, skate and surf lifestyle, and contemporary culture. Xavier’s work is rich in bright, vibrant colours and high contrast, and he often uses dark humour to convey a narrative.

Psychedelic Pskulls opens tomorrow night, the 4th of December, at the Quiksilver Boardriders Artspace, Torquay Hwy.
