We asked singer-songwriter Leon Bridges for a couple of quick recommendations if ever we find ourselves in his home town of Fort Worth, Texas. Here are his top picks for best spots to flick through records, score some vintage threads, and see some live music.
BEST RECORD STORE: Doc’s Records & Vintage
Leon says: Doc’s is a cool record store that has vintage clothes and great records. You can find some great R&B, 45s and stuff.
BEST VINTAGE CLOTHING: DOLLY PYTHON
Leon says: You can sometimes score something cool at Doc’s, but the biggest and best place to go is Dolly Python.
BEST LIVE MUSIC VENUE: Magnolia Motor Lounge
Leon says: This is where I met Austin Jenkins from White Denim when I was starting out. They are also very consistent with having great live bands.
BEST PLACE TO SEE TOWNES VAN ZANDT’S GHOST
Leon says: I’m a big time Townes fan. But there are no memorials around here. I should make one.
BEST TEX MEX: Rosa’s Cafe
Leon says: I worked at Rosa’s Café for 7 years busing tables. I let it go last summer. I went back to get something to eat and it’s the same people working there. They all said, ‘Hey, I saw you on TV!’
