Who on earth doesn’t like Tame Impala? They’re everyone’s favorite band. I still remember hearing ‘Half Full Glass of Wine’ from their self-titled EP in 2008 and thinking, ‘finally!’ It’s been a consistent soar through outer space ever since. Their last release, Lonerism, was the perfect balance of precision and whimsy, and Currents dons a similar coat. It’s float-ey as fuck but there’s not a key out of place. It’s all clouds and space and light reflections and higher-than-thou vocals and it’s dripping with psychedelic wonder, like honey from a spoon on hour three of an acid trip. Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind if the plane I’m on crashes while I’m listening to Currents. I’m at peace with the world and am certain that heaven exists. I can hear it.
Stand out tracks: The three you’ve heard looping at every barber, clothing boutique and friends bbq since they were released on Spotify, plus crowning jewel, ‘Yes I’m Changing’
Expect to hear this album blaring from every car and living room window this Friday onwards. Better get used to it. Currents is the soundtrack to the next year of your life, whether you like it or not.
