Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite was the deserving winner of Best Picture at this year’s Oscars, making it the first foreign film in history to win the award.
But cultural tastemaker and president of the United States, Donald Trump, isn’t too pleased about it. For reasons that mystify us all, Trump took the opportunity to take the piss out of the historic South Korean film at a Colorado rally recently, saying, ‘How bad were the Academy Awards this year? The winner is—a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade.’
The initial shock that Trump had pulled his sausage fingers away from Tweeting long enough to hit play on a subtitled foreign movie (that requires reading actual words) quickly dissipated, however, as he went on to confirm that despite his anger towards the film, he’d not actually seen it yet.
‘On top of that, they give them best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know.’
Film buff Trump then went on to suggest an alternative winner for the category, that was not any of the eight other nominees in the running for the top prize but rather, the Best Picture Oscars winner from 1939.
‘Let’s get Gone With the Wind,’ he said. ‘Can we get Gone With the Wind back, please?’
