Film and pop-culture buffs, lend us your ear.
The shoe that you see both above and below is a good lookin’ shoe. It’s also got heavyweight checkerboard canvas uppers and a higher foxing strip, plus a Vans UltraCush™ footbed so you know they’re going to last and feel snug on your feet.
But that’s not what’s getting us so hot under the collar on this dreary Monday morning. Our favourite thing about Vans ‘Fast Times’ Checkerboard Slip-On is its humble 1977 origins when Vans’ founders noticed kids drawing checks all over their shoes, and decided to make their own version. After they were worn by characters in cult classic, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the shoe below up and came to symbolise SoCal style.
In celebration of the film’s release back in the early 80s, Vans made a limited run of Fast Times Slip-Ons to give away at the Hollywood premiere, making them one of the most sought after styles in the brand’s archive. Now, for the first time since the film’s premiere, Vans are reissuing a limited-edition Fast Times Slip-On through its Anaheim Factory Collection. Though it’s 40 years down the track, the reissue will bring back the silhouette in its original design and construction method.
Vans ‘Fast Times’ Checkerboard Slip-On will available online at vans.com and at select retailers this March, so mark it in your calendar right after you watch Spicoli learnin’ about Cuba and having some food.
