Intro

Dear Reader,

You've seen the archetypical image of the guy, head in his hands, hair frazzled, face drooping... in front of him sits the object of his frustration, a typewriter, and behind him a nice little pile of crumpled up papers with half-assed written bits on them. That was me.

I wondered why the Monster Children creators were fearless in handing their creation over to a an American bloke they only slightly knew. Now, in hindsight, I understand. In fact, I know why they had no problem handing it over. It wasn't an inspired act of cooperation or pity for an old magaziner like myself... it was a calculated act of pure genius! They knew it had been many years since I'd sat behind a typer and phone to get a periodical done, and that I had probably forgotten the woes and frustrations of accumulating all the editorial to complete something publishable. They had to have known they would have an easy time suckering me into it - they knew enough time had passed since my day, that I had obviously blocked-out the difficulties and trauma involved in this heinous career path - that I would be caught up in the nostalgic web of my former life.

They were right. It worked. I said yes to a guest editorship... and I was so overcome with flattery that I, in turn, was used by the MC staff to cajole the other Art Dumpers into joining me. "Come on, it'll be fun!"

Now the Art Dump hates me. My boss is pissed at me and my wife thinks I'm seeing another woman. I've been on a steady diet of hamburgers and Cokes, am sleep deprived and have broken out in hives. Thank you Monster Children. Thank you for helping me clearly recall why I quit doing magazines those many years ago.

Stay golden - Andy Jenkins
