Where the fuck has all the colour gone? This is the first ever Monster Children Black and White issue. Number 13 all dark and badass. Even the advertisers jumped in and agreed to go Black and White with us. Andrei Molodkin did one of the best covers yet and 7 sweet pages of art inside. We stepped it up again with a Kaws Glow in the Dark cover for the other issue and a 10 page feature to roll with it. We also sent out 20 Sharpie Markers and a blank page to some of our favourite illustrators and Artists. Including Reg Mombassa, Andy Jenkins, Mark Pexna and Stefan Marx. O'Meally shows us some Boxing portraits, we look at some of the best Black and White Reportage photography and if thats not enough to get you rolling around like a pig in shit, then the Free Sharpie Marker will.

RAINBOWS ARE GAY
It’s hot outside. Probably 30 degrees or something. And as I sit here thinking about all things black and white I can see through a gap in the curtains two 19 year old girls from Mona Vale playing under a sprinkler in the back yard. They’re laughing, they’re shimmery wet and they’ve got polka dot bikinis on. No wonder it’s hard to concentrate. It’s about the most colourful scene I’ve witnessed in a damn long time. Which makes me wonder: why black and white anyway? It’s not like it hasn’t been done before. It’s not exactly a new medium. Why dedicate 120 odd pages to sucking the rainbow out of life? Well for a start: rainbows are gay. Not homo gay, but sitting-in-a-circle-singing-about-dolphins gay. Second: unless you’re a dog then the colourless world is not a place you live in. Rather it’s a place you visit via the images, brush strokes or words of those who understand it most. These artists are the translators of soul and their work needs to be seen cause it can change the fucken world. Third: Black and White is cool. Not Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney doing a duet on the Thriller album cool, but two girls from the Vale dancing under a sprinkler on the hottest day of the year cool. Yeah, strip anything back to it’s most basic asthetic properties and true beauty is easy to find. That’s what this edition of MC is all about.

Andrei Molodkin. On a whim and a prayer we went after Andrei, contacted a gallery in New York that had his email, and in one of the coyest emails ever written asked if he would be interested in doing a cover. Surprisingly for us he was into the idea, so between trips to the South of France to work on sculptures for an upcoming show he drew us the bad ass skull design for our cover. Originally in blue biro, we hit the grey scale button and bam, a bad-as-shit cover for you.
Kaws. We'd be wanting to get Kaws in an issue since day one, so when he was down for the glow in the dark cover idea and feature we knew the issue was going to be a collectors special. Switch off the lights, turn up the rave music and let your Kaws cover magic glow.
