adidas and Parley Make Recycled Shoes You’d Actually Wear

Long gone are the days when environmentally friendly clothing meant a wardrobe full of colourless hemp.

Enter, adidas and Parley for the Oceans. This past week, the partnership that first began in 2015 was out to remind everyone that when it comes to plastic, they don’t play around. The adidas x Parley arsenal that includes high-performance products like the NMD City Sock, Alphabounce, Ultraboost and Ultraboost X was on show, proving that the union of an industry frontrunner like adidas pairs and a reputable environmental organisation like Parley truly is a match made in heaven.

adidas created a world first with a shoe upper made entirely of recycled ocean plastic and gillnets—how the scourge of the ocean can be turned into real products that you’d actually buy is mind-blowing, and you can read more about it here. Essentially, ocean plastic is collected from beaches and waterways by the good people at Parley, and sent on to supply chain partners. From there, the plastic is shredded and reworked until it becomes the technical yarn fibres used in adidas x Parley products.

It’s a strong statement directed at a notoriously wasteful fashion industry, as well as a timely reminder to us consumer minions that giving a shit about the world we live in and looking good doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.
