In an “alternate present-day version of Oakland”, Cassius Green (played by Get Out and Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield) rapidly climbs the corporate ladder to eventually become a ‘power caller’ in a secret telemarketer sect.
You heard right. Premiering at Sundance, this first taste of Boots Riley’s film Sorry To Bother You already looks to be the kind of biting, offbeat humour that we hope 2018 will have in spades. The trailer betrays an all-star cast—Terry Crews is chasing Cassius for money, Danny Glover’s demonstrating how to put on a white voice on sales calls, and Armie Hammer is a diabolical executive dangling carrots in front of a misled protagonist, blinded by the fame and fortune of the upper echelons of the telemarketing sector. Pencil this one in your diaries, ’cause it’s not to be missed.
Sorry to Bother You is out in theatres July 6.
