Sure, there’s Trump, people on your Facebook who let you know how many kilometres they’ve run that day and D-bags who speak during the movies, but the world is a pretty great place. Here to prove it, are some of our favourite photos who’ve made the cut in the Siena International Photo Awards. Location: Labrang Lamasery, Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gannan, Gansu Province, China. During a Dharma assembly in the monastery of Labrang Lamasery, due to the heavy snow, all the monks’ robes were covered with a thick layer of snow. When a young Lama was looking back with a smile, the photographer captured his smiling face.

PHAN RANG FISHING NET MAKING
1° Classified, Danny Yen Sin Wong
Location: Vietnam. In a small village in southern Vietnam near Phan Rang, a woman wearing a typical cone hat is creating a fishing net in their traditional manner. The manufacturing of handmade nets is still a typical Vietnamese activity for women which they carry on while their husbands are out fishing.
3° Classified, Isa Ebrahim Location: Bahrain. A Bahraini Muslim woman carrying her son while taking part in the funeral of Isa Radhi, the Bahraini protester who was allegedly killed during Martial Law in Sitra Village, South Manama on March 22, 2011.

Location: Saudi Arabia. A multitude of observant Muslims hold the traditional circumambulation ritual around the Kaaba, an ancient building located in the center of Mecca, which is the holiest place for the Islam community.

Location: Fleri, (CT) Sicilia. This shot captures the moment after harvesting in which the grapes are arranged by a Sicilian farmer before they are to be pressed.

Location: Bali, Indonesia. I was taking pictures of some Orangutans in Bali when it started to rain. Just before I put my camera away, I saw this Orangutan take a taro leaf and put it on top of its head to protect himself from the rain, and I immediately caught the moment.

Location: Nazilli – Aydin – Turkey. To take this shot, I had to climb a relief which allowed me to include interesting, colored greenhouses located near Nazilli. To make the picture more interesting, I waited for the moment when a Turkish peasant who was working with the strawberries entered the frame.
2° Classified, Matjaz Krivic
Location: Diafarabe Mali. When we met, the boy was carrying his shoes in his hands as he couldn’t use them anymore. Traveling prepared makes a difference and with my sewing needle and dental floss, we patched them up, so that he could follow his herd.
Honorable Mention, Isa Ebrahim
Location: India. Colors, facial expressions, people’s posture and a studied composition make this image particularly interesting as it portrays the Bhenwa family in the city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and is a true representation of the living conditions in this Indian city.

Location: Oman. A Bedouin boy with his family and their camel. The adults are wearing the traditional Omani Khanjar, a dagger still used in official ceremonies, as well as a symbol of the country.

Location: India. This little boy was being painted like Lord Krishna as preparation for acting in a village drama, while little Radha was looking on with intense curiosity.
