For our 50th issue, we interviewed 50 of our heroes. Cleon Peterson and his dark paintings of violent monster orgies made the cut. Cleon Peterson’s art’s fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but the people in his paintings are doing really shitty things to each other—like stabbing and raping and hitting—and while I know these are things humans do to each other every single day, I don’t wanna be confronted with it. I’d much prefer to drift through life watching M*A*S*H, eating chocolate frogs and pretending everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. Having said that, Cleon’s work is as compelling and interesting as it is challenging, and that’s why we profiled him.
Watch the vid we made with him above, and if you want to know more about the main behind the stabbings, see our feature on him here.
