VIVID DIARY: TV ON THE RADIO

Brooklyn based rock legends TV on the Radio closed the fortnight long festival of music and lights, Sydney’s Vivid Festival, with a sold out show supported by Sydney’s own Kirin J. Callinan.

The entire crowd was up by the second song, ‘Lazerray’, following singer Tunde Adebimpe’s orders to get on their feet and stay there. With a setlist that focused heavily on the new album, Seeds, TVOTR still managed to splice in classics from their discography throughout the night. The crowd didn’t seem to mind, though, and sung along like a devoted church choir to all the new jams. Rocking an all balck jumpsuit and white Vans hi-tops, Tunde flew across the stage as he whipped out his signature dance moves—fist to the skull, hips popping, and hands violently flicking all over the shop—while guitarist Kyp Malone bounced around in camaraderie during the harder hitters like ‘Wolf Like Me.’ TVOTR are some of the most gracious performers, constantly thanking the crowd for having them and telling everybody how much they appreciated playing at the Sydney Opera House. And with foot stomping howls, the crowd said it right back.
