You’ll be surprised to learn that Vernon Courtland Johnson—the man who created some of the toughest, coolest, most awe-inspiring-est skate graphics at the dawn of modern skateboarding—is something of a hippie. In fact, he’s more than a hippie—he’s a goddamn draft-dodging, haircut-evading, positive-vibe-spreading beatnik. That’s neither here nor there, and has nothing to do with the interview in issue 45, but we thought we better warn you before you read it and wonder if Mike Giant (the interviewee) didn’t converse with Peter Fonda circa 1967 by accident.
