My friend once met a girl on a greyhound bus whose mother used to be in a cult.
She put a sheet over her head and stood in the sun and said it made her feel close to god. Watching The Source Family trailer, that story sprang to mind. The documentary follows the wild ride of members belonging to the radical 70’s group of the same name. Described as an experiment in utopian living, The Source Family lived together commune style in the Hollywood Hills, owned a popular LA heath food restaurant, formed a psychedelic rock band called YaHoWha 13 and sought guidance in their unconventional spiritual leader, Father Yod. I swear I’m not making this up. The documentary premieres May 9, at The Standard, West Hollywood.
