Listen Up Philip

At this year’s Sundance Film Festival Alex Ross Perry premiered his film Listen Up Philip, a satirical play on Philip Roth’s book The Ghost Writer. The Ghost Writer is about a newly celebrated young writer who’s gone to the home of an author whom he idolizes around the same time that he’s about to begin writing his sophomore novel. The book takes place during a few days whereas the film spans about a year. Featuring a full-on cast including Jason Schwartzman as the main character, Dree Hemingway, Krysten Ritter, Elisabeth Moss, Jonathan Pryce and Josephine de la Baume, it looks to be a satisfying escape from the recent overly-stylized Wes Anderson films and a return to more subtle whit and style, artfully rendered.
