The Jangs X Los Angeles consists of four decades worth of Michael Jang‘s photographs of his immediate and extended family. Heavily influenced by the work of Lee Friedlander and Garry Winogrand, Michael began documenting the Jangs in ’73 while they were on a vacation in Pacifica, CA. No one knew about the photos until some forty years later. Several pieces from the series are part of San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art‘s permanent collection.
Michael Jang is known for his shots of iconic figures including Jimi Hendrix, Ronald Reagan, David Bowie and Robin Williams. This is the first time that he will be exhibiting in Los Angeles.
The opening is this Saturday, May 17 from 7-10pm at Kessels Kramer, 963 Chung King Road
